    For your prayers…

Cheryl and I attended Saturday mornings HCI Townhall meeting and it prompted these basic ramblings…

I suspect that there were about thirty members present and it really proved to be very instructive and in a sense almost healing. I suppose that many of you probably thought that I would be totally in agreement with these proposed Prescriptions from the outset, but I was really being challenged by them just as many of you are. I mean my gosh, should church really be this hard?

Is it just me or do we all have these thoughts…
We just want to come to church and recharge our batteries and inhale some ‘spiritual’ stuff to make it through the week. We expend all our energy at work or give so much at school that we just… we just can’t accept any more demands on our time and energy. Isn’t there anyone else to do it for Gashland, I have done my share and someone else must step up now? Pastor Paul, I WANT A FIRST CLASS TICKET!!!

Some very excellent questions came up and very valid points were raised in the HCI meeting. One that is paramount to this entire process is TRUST. Trust in Paul’s leadership and management, trust in the smaller group of leaders that are nominated and voted on. Trust in the conference and our new Coach to help us just survive this process let alone succeed. But remember, none of these are really that important because as we all know we only need to maintain our Trust in God, as Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:24-26

Change is frightening and the amount and types of changes that the prescriptions are laying before us could almost be considered overwhelming. Has God asked this much of others? We all know the answer to this. What he lays before us pales in comparison to what he has asked many others to do.

God calls us to be disciples and I don’t think he made it conditional of our job or school activities, our energy levels or even our age. Dick Davis proved that to each of us as he showed up to help in the midst of construction chaos to vacuum the rugs. He may have been unsteady on his feet, but he was never that way in his spirit or faith. Dick will always serve as a reminder of our commitment to God and to each other at GUMC.

I ask you now to join me in prayer,

    Dear Heavenly Father.
We ask for your enlightenment regarding these HCI Prescriptions
We do not doubt you oh God, but fear our own inadequacies
We may lack faith in our leaders and faith in our direction but never lack faith in you

Please dear God restore and invigorate our faith in our leaders and the direction of our church
Heal the wounds and calm the anxiety and anger over past decisions
Forge us as one unified community of Christ to strengthen our efforts
    In your name we pray.
    Amen
